NCAA ELIGIBILITY

Core Courses:

  • NCAA Division 1 requires 16 core courses. NCAA Division 2 requires 16 core courses.

  • NCAA Division 1 will require 10 core courses to be prior to the seventh semester.

Test Scores:

  • Division 1 uses a sliding scale to match test scores and the core grade point average. (GPA) a copy of these scales may be views on the website listed above.

  • Division 2 requires a minimum SAT score of 820 or an ACT sum of 68. (The writing section of the SAT is not used in this calculation.)

  • When registering for an ACT or SAT, use the NCAA Eligibility Center Code of 9999 to ensure all SAT and ACT scores are reported directly to the NCAA. Test scores on transcripts will not be used.

Grade Point Average:

  • Be sure to look at your high school’s list of NCAA courses as only courses on this list will be used in the calculation of your GPA.

  • Division 1 students enrolling full time before August 1st, 2016 should use sliding scale A to determine eligibility to receive athletics aid, practice, and competition during the first year.

  • Division 1 GPA required to receive athletics aid and practice on or after August 1st, 2016 is 2.000. (See test score requirements on sliding scale B)

  • Division 1 GPA required to be eligible for competition on or after August 1st, 2016 is 2.300. (See test score requirements on sliding scale B)

  • Division 2 core GPA requirement is a minimum of 2.000.

  • For all 3 listed above, remember the NCAA GPA is calculated using NCAA courses only.

Division 1-16 Core Course Requirements

  • 4 years English

  • 3 years of mathematics (Algebra 1 or higher)

  • 2 years natural/physical sciences (1 year of lab if offered by high school)

  • 1 year additional English, mathematics, or natural/physical science

  • 2 years social science

  • 4 years additional courses (from any above area, foreign language, or comparative religion/philosophy)

Division 2-16 Core Courses

  • 3 years English

  • 2 years mathematics (Algebra 1 or higher)

  • 2 years natural/physical science (1 year of lab if offered by high school)

  • 3 years additional English, mathematics, or natrual/physical science

  • 2 years social science

  • 4 years of additional courses (from any above area, foreign language, or comparative religion/philosophy)
